Waiting for the new baby in the family is always exciting and troublesome. The expectant mother takes care of the health of the unborn baby and tries to prepare everything that is needed for him/her. Young parents want to collect only the best. But how not succumb to the tricks of marketers and not buy too expensive a thing with unnecessary features? We will tell you how to choose a crib.
Types of beds
It may seem strange to some, but there are more options for furniture for children’s sleep than for adults. Parents choose between four designs. Let’s get to know them in more detail:
It is shaped like a small basket. It is often made from wicker. This is a compact sleeping place with sides. Gives the chance to rock the child. It is fixed on a stationary stand or mounted on a bed on straps. Its advantages:
- Mobility, compactness, small weight. The design takes up less space than analogs.
- Warm cozy baby bed. Simulates the tightness that a newborn gets used to during fetal development.
- The possibility of motion sickness. Some cradles have a remote rocking function.
The main disadvantage is the short service life. Already from six months, you will have to buy another crib. This one will become too small and unsafe. A grown child can easily get out of it or fall. Another disadvantage is the high price.
Classic baby bed
Traditional version with high sides. Usually, it is possible to adjust the height of the bed. This is very convenient for the mother, who can save her back in the first months after the birth of the baby. To do this, the bottom is raised to the top position. The child does not yet know how to turn, so it cannot fall out. As the baby grows, the mattress sinks lower.
Most models are equipped with wheels, which makes them easy to move around the room. If so, there should be a lock on each wheel. The advantages of the classic version are:
- Standard sizes. Therefore, choosing accessories for sleeping is very simple.
- Removable sides. One of them is removed for the time of sleep of the newborn, turning the product into an attachment. After the child grows up, the sides are removed, and they get a regular bed.
- The baby can sleep in it for at least three years. For elongated models, this period is longer.
- Low price.
- A simple design that breaks very rarely.
The disadvantage is considered a significant dimension. The functionality is minimal. If necessary, you can choose and buy a mobile, a changing table, or something else, and build them into a classic design.
Transforming baby bed
Combination of bed, changing table, chest of drawers. They can be equipped with motion sickness mechanisms. Up to about seven years they “work” as children’s models, then they transform into beds for schoolchildren. They can be complemented by bedside tables or a table. Round transformers are even more multifunctional. Alternately, they can be a cradle, a spacious bed for sleeping, a sofa, an arena, an armchair complete with a table. Advantages of transformers:
- The ability to use them until adolescence.
There are a few shortcomings, but they are significant. One of them is massiveness. The system will “get up” only in a large children’s room. At the same time, the width of the mattress is small, usually, it is only 60 cm. For a baby, this is normal, but for a teenager, it is not enough. The price of transformers, especially round ones, is much higher than that of analogs.
Mobile combination of bed and play area. The lightweight folding system is made of plastic, aluminum, and fabric. It is quite functional: the height of the bed is adjustable, and it is possible to install a mobile, a changing table, and a basket for small things. Good for cottage or travel. Arena advantages:
- Lightweight mobile design.
- Transparent sidewalls allow you to always see the child.
Of the shortcomings, the instability of the structure is noted. It is very easy to topple over. Older children do it easily. Therefore, such arenas are produced with restrictions on weight and age. They are good up to a maximum of 2-3 years.
